Verizon has announced today that they will be making all of their FiOS plans symmetrical, with the same download and upload speed. Previously, the upload speeds were slower than the download speeds, which is the case with many Internet Service Providers.

Verizon says they’ve made this move due to the increase in upload traffic, from services like video chatting, uploading video, and online backup. FiOS is known for offering faster speeds than most cable providers, and not having a monthly data limit, which some Comcast customers have had their service shut off for going over.

Verizon hopes to roll out the new speeds to current residential customers over the next few months, and expects 95% of their customers to receive the improved speeds. Business customers will receive the faster speeds “later this year”.
